Why am I running for Judge?

I'm running for Judge because I believe our community deserves a justice system that is fair, compassionate and equal for all. As a life long South Side resident, mother, and attorney, I've seen firsthand how the courts impact everyday families. As a Judge from the Community and for the Community, I will bring real-life experience and understanding to the bench. My goal is to ensure every person who steps in the Courtroom is treated with respect and fairness.

Working to make my grandparents and parents proud

My name is Audrey Vasquez Martinez. I’m a San Antonio native, born and raised on the south side, a law enforcement wife and mother to three beautiful children, 3 months, 2 years old and 5 years old . As the oldest of four children and first generation college graduate, I worked every day to make my grandparents and parents proud. I worked to be a good example to my younger siblings. Now, I work hard to uphold our strong familial beliefs and to be a mom that makes my children proud.

My grandparents have always been involved in the community. My grandfather, a Vietnam Veteran, serves as the Commander of the American Legion JFK Post. My grandmother, truly my inspiration, fought for equal pay and worker’s right during her time working at Kelly Air Force Base. She truly was a feminist and taught me everything I know about being a strong Latina. My grandparents inspire me everyday to be all that I can.

In 2010 I graduated from Incarnate Word High School, where I gained confidence to stick up for my beliefs and fight for what’s right.

Completing my degrees at UT-Austin and St. Mary's University School of Law

I attended The University of Texas at Austin (Hook Em), where I received my bachelor’s degree in 2014. After that I worked part time as a clerk for Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1 under the honorable Judge Tejeda. Then the following year attended law school at St. Mary’s University School of Law. I completed law school in two and half years to graduate in December 2017 and immediately took the February Bar Exam.  While in law School I worked as a student attorney in the Immigration Clinic. Also, during my 2L year I wrote an article that received Honors covering the USA Women’s Soccer Team fight for Equal Pay.

Legal Experience in the District Attorney's Office as a Felony Prosecutor

I received my law license in May 2018 and began working in June as a prosecutor at the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office. While there, I was in the juvenile division of the District Attorney’s Office where I learned the intricacies of juvenile law and what makes it unique. From there, I went on to work in the Family Violence Felony Division where I prosecuted some of the most egregious crimes against children. After leaving the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office in 2022, I came to work at the 81st District Attorney’s Office. I became the Felony Prosector for Karnes and Atascosa County where I have prosecuted all types of cases ranging from Murder, to crimes against children, Drug Cases, Aggravated Assaults and Robberies. Working as a prosecutor has allowed me to fight for those who have been wronged, to be voice for those without one.

My grandparents are founding members of the Fiesta Flambeau Parade Association

As a San Antonio native, I am no stranger to Fiesta and the beautiful culturally rich celebrations that go on in our wonderful city during the month of April. My grandparents were founding members of the Fiesta Flambeau Parade Association and as their granddaughter, I went to many parade events with them. I was about 10 months old when I came out in the Night Prade and have come out four more times. I take great pride in this city and will continue to carry on my grandparents’ legacy.

Completed 2 full marathons and 7 half marathons

Additionally, I am a member of the IAAP running team and enjoy running with this fantastic group of runners. One of my greatest accomplishments, outside of work and home life, is that I have completed 2 full marathons and 7 half marathons. One of my favorite past times, is volunteering as an assistant Coach to my daughter’s CYO teams and to take my children on runs with me.

Raised over $15,000 for the Robb Elementary School Memorial Fund

In August of 2022, after the tragedy that took so many young lives, I wanted to do something that both honored the lives taken and raise money for them. I then came up with an idea to do the first Uvalde Strong 5K run. I asked one of my friends, Marissa Giovenco, to help me put on this race. We held this race at Southside Lions Park and we were able to raise over $15,000 that went towards the Robb School Memorial Fund.
